On January 3, 2026, U.S. forces illegally invaded Venezuela and kidnapped the sitting President and First Lady. Since then, President Nicolás Maduro and First Combatant Cilia Flores have been held at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center in New York as prisoners of war.

This ongoing injustice is a violation of Maduro and Flores’ human rights, as well as the commitment to the Americas as a Zone of Peace.

Join us to embrace letter writing as a political act and discuss how we can maintain consistent lines of communication with these and all prisoners of war and political prisoners.

The relationship developed through letter writing establishes spaces for truth-telling, combatting the whitewashed and censored version of incarceration told by the state. Letter writing can create a level of interdependence that can be the foundation for how we counter the state’s constant threat against us, including various forms of isolation and confinement.
