THE 2026 International
Month of Action Against AFRICOM

International Month of Action graphic containing an image of African people protesting. They are holding up a banner with French text on it. Over it, the words "shut down AFRICOM"

The purpose of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) is to use U.S. military power to service the needs and interests of the U.S. & Western capital class. By enabling multi-national corporations to exploit the continent for resources, labor, and land, AFRICOM seeks to deny the development of African sovereignty. It works in tandem with other agents and instruments of neo-colonialism (such as NATO, the IMF, ECOWAS, the comprador class, etc.) to further escalate the war of imperialism against the African continent and against African people everywhere.

In the ongoing struggle(s) of resistance to imperialist oppression that Africans are carrying out, we can understand, more clearly, the significance of shutting down AFRICOM and opposing Western imperialist militarism, more broadly. While AFRICOM continues to develop and expand its operations in neo-colonial territories in the West African Sahel, the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) defends its sovereignty against militarized attacks orchestrated by the West.

While the U.S. carries out its imperialist efforts through AFRICOM’s Laikipia Air Base in Kenya, members of the Kenyan masses organize against Western imperialism and the neocolonial (mis)management of the nation by their comprador government.

Join us on Saturday, October 3rd, exactly 18 years since the official establishment of AFRICOM to kick off our annual International Month of Action to #ShutDownAFRICOM. The BAP Africa Team will host a webinar at 1pm EST to ground our understanding of AFRICOM’s role in imperialist oppression and to discuss instances of and strategies for anti-imperialist resistance.

Throughout the month of October, please join us to demand the complete withdrawal of U.S. forces from Africa, the demilitarization of the African continent, the closure of U.S. bases throughout the world, and that the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) must oppose AFRICOM and support hearings on AFRICOM’s impact on the African continent.
