The "Secure DC" Omnibus Crime Bill is the latest attempt by the DC government to impose law and order and advance the war against the Black working class. The bill allows police to detain and identify people for public transportation fare evasion, stop people for mask wearing if they believe they're "suspicious", and create "drug free zones" making it illegal to gather in certain areas for up to five days.
No adequate solutions are provided that address the root issues that lead to street-level crime: poverty, addiction, food insecurity, inadequate housing, and capitalist exploitation. Instead, the bill targets the Black working class people in DC, particularly the youth of Southeast DC.
Pan-African Community Action (PACA) invites you to this community townhall meeting designed to unpack the implications of the crime bill and discuss real solutions for community safety, including Community Control Over the Police!
Lunch will be provided and there will be a live performance by the DC Afro Go-Go roots collective Crank Lu'Kongo Unplugged.
This event is free and open to the public but a $10 donation is requested to cover costs.
