"Black History Month as African Liberation" features a roundtable discussion between the editors of Hood Communist about the Pan-African origins of Negro History Week; the limitations of Black History Month, from its commodification to its reduction to "Black Firsts"; and the importance of shifting the framework to African Liberation. Participants will discuss how the celebration of Black achievements is not enough to combat the manifold forms of colonization and oppression African people face or to develop the modes of organizing and political consciousness necessary for the ongoing liberation struggle. This event will illuminate the importance of radical African organizations, Black revolutionaries of all genders, and an internationalist analysis to the struggle against neocolonial propaganda that has taken over Black History Month.
